CB Furnishings is a home department store based in North Yorkshire. They have a wide variety of interior décor and furnishings one needs to rejuvenate the aesthetic appeal and functionality of their home. The brand has two stores in the market towns of Thirsk and Northallerton. However, to provide the comfort of online shopping and grow their sales, CB Furnishings came up with the idea of building an eCommerce store. With this thought, they considered hiring professional eCommerce website design & development solutions.

KEY CHALLENGES

CB Furnishings wanted to build a fully-functional eCommerce store with a cross-platform presence. Their key criteria was an eCommerce website but also wanted to cater to the audiences who prefer shopping via mobile devices. Some of the key challenges we faced during building the website are:

  • CB Furnishings solely provided in-store purchase and delivery. Moving to an eCommerce shopping and delivery system was itself a big challenge for the company.
  • The client catered to multiple segments in the field of home décor and furnishings. They wanted to sell a large number of products through the store. Hence, the biggest challenge was to keep the UI/UX simple and easy to navigate. The website visitors should be able to find the products easily and get to the check-out options quickly.
  • Need to build a CMS system for the eCommerce store that enables the client to seamlessly add as many products, edit content, or delete items as they go out of stock.
  • Earlier the brand targeted audiences who would visit a store personally to have a look and feel of the furnishing or home décor before they could buy. Getting them onto a digital platform seemed difficult.
  • Integrating multiple payment gateways.

PROPOSITION & SOLUTION

We focused on the following solutions for this eCommerce website development case study:

  • Research and Brainstorming - We started by thoroughly assessing the company, its product range and its target audiences. What are the different brands of products they wanted to showcase on their eCommerce store? What are the demographics, buying behaviour and budget of the target customers?
We also analysed different competitor brands and their eCommerce websites to have a better understanding of the industry trends, style, pricing, etc. This helped devise a mind map and brainstorm ideas of how the website will look & function.
  • Iterative Design Process - Started wireframing keeping the features and requirements of the client in the mind. Adopted a user-centred design where the focus is on the users and their unique needs. We created an eCommerce website design using WordPress that is extremely user-friendly and allows making updates easily on the backend.
The designers created several website templates keeping in the mind the client’s brand value and the latest eCommerce web design best practices.
  • eCommerce Website Development Using WooCommerce - Used the capabilities of WooCommerce to build a fully-featured eCommerce storefront to sell home décor and furnishings online. WooCommerce allows users to easily manage and add products to the website while providing inventory synchronisation and shipping capabilities.
Payment gateway integration was an integral part of our eCommerce website development process. We integrated PayPal and Credit/Debit card payment methods via American Express, Visa and Mastercard.
  • Analytics and Marketing - We also integrated Google Analytics to help the client get real-time user data, track website performance metrics and use the potential of retargeting. We also integrated social media buttons on the website for greater awareness and reach.
